Manning who has been summoned to appear at the present term of this Court to answer a presentment of the Grand Jury for a violation of the Act of the General Assembly of Virginia entitled "An act prohibiting the sale of intoxicating liquors on the Sabbath day, approved March 6th 1874, this day appeared in Court and plead guilty to the presentment aforesaid, upon consideration whereof the Court doth fine the said William W. Manning the sum of ten dollars. Therefore, it is considered by the Court that the Commonwealth recover against the said William W. Manning the said fine of ten dollars and the costs of this prosecution. And thereupon the said William W. Manning paid to the Clerk in Court, the said fine of ten dollars and $10.25 the cost.

The Commonwealth, Pltff vs W. W. Manning, Deft.

Upon an information for violation of the act to prevent the sale of intoxicating liquors to minors. This day came as well the attorney for the Commonwealth as the Defendant by his attorney, and the said Defendant by his attorney plead "not guilty", to which the attorney for the Commonwealth replied generally, and thereupon came a jury to wit: Caleb Fleming, E. M. Owens, John Land, S. S. Ames, Jas. K. Smith, Edward Wilkins, S. D. T. Manning, Jno. E. West, Geo. A. G. Scott, Robert Pettit, Morris Hunt, Jefferson Phillips, who being elected, tried and sworn the truth to speak upon the issue. Joined, and having heard the evidence and argument of counsel retired to their room to consult of a verdict, and after some time returned into Court having found the following verdict, "We the Jury find the Defendant not guilty". Therefore it is considered by the Court that the Defendant be acquitted of the charge aforesaid and go thereof without day.
