Portsmouth--Mrs. Evelyn O'Connor Mercer, 87, a former resident of the Portsmouth area, died Wednesday in Hillsboro. She was the widow of Alto Mercer.
Surviving are a son, John O'Connor Mercer of La Plata, Md.; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Jackson of Alexandria and Mrs. Ethel Guard of Norfolk; and 28 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Nellie Old Barclay, age 92 years, widow of Robert Clifford Barclay and daughter of the late Jonathan and Mrs. Ann Whitehurst Old, died at 12:40 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her residence, 1015 Washington Street, after a short illness.4. Mrs. Barclay was a native of Princess Anne County, and had resided here for the last 75 years. She was one of the oldest residents of Portsmouth and the oldest communicant of St. John's Episcopal Church.
She is survived by three sons, Hugh P. Barclay; city attorney, R. C. Barclay and Charles O. Barclay, Sr.; three granchildren, Lieut. Charles O. Barclay, on duty in the Pacific; Miss Mary M. Barclay and Robert C. Barclay, 3d, all of Portsmouth; one brother, Young Old, of Norfolk County, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow, the time and place to be announced.

Mrs. Nellie Old Barclay--Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Old Barclay, who died Wednesday, were held yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at St. John's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Roderick H. Jackson, pastor, officiating. Burials was in Oak Grove cemetery.
The casket was covered with white chrysanthemums and pink roses.
Pallbearers were W. W. Old, Jr., Johnathan W. Old, Jr., Dr. R. Marshall Codd, Charles Webster, George E. Parker, Keisey G. Darst, L. B. Barclay, S. T. Barclay and W. C. Barclay.
