Now this indenture wittnesseth that the said Arthur Godfrey for and in consideration of the sum of seventeen pounds lawfull money of Virg'a to him in hand paid by the said Solomon Hodges whereof he doth hereby acknowledge ; the receipt have remised released granted and confirmed and by these presents do grant remise release unto the said Solomon Hodges in his actual possession now being by virtue of the said receted indenture of bargaine & sale maid to him of a year, of the said statute and to his heirs and assinges ye afforesd land tonament hereditaments & premises with the appurtances, and all the estate right title claim interest and demand whatsoever of the said Arthur Godfrey in and to ye same & every part thereof (excepting and always reserving unto Richard Hodges & Eliza his wife ye father and mother of the said Solomon Hodges what privilidge they or either of them shall think fitting said dividend of land during their naturall lives. To have and to hold the said land tenaments hereditaments & premises with the appurtenances and the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders unto the said Solomon Hodges his heirs & assignes (excepting and always reserveing as before comprised) and to the only use & behalf of the said Solomon Hodges his heirs and assignes & to no other use intent or purpose whatsoever. In wittness, whereof ye said Arthur Godfrey & Isabella his wife have hereto set their hands & accostomed seals ye day and year above written.
In the name of God, Amen, I Solomon Hodges being very sick and weak in body but of a perfect good mind and memory I give and bequeth my soul to God who gave it and my body to be decently buried
Item, I give and bequeth my plantation and tract of land where in I now do live to my brother Thomas Hodges and to his heirs for ever and if my brother Thos Hodges should die without heirs then my will is that my brother Robert Hodges shall have my plantation and land belonging to it and to his heirs for ever and if my brother Robert Hodges shall die without heirs then my will is that my brother William Hodges shall have my plantation with the land belonging to it and to his heirs for ever as witness my hand and seal this 14th day of August anno dom 1730.

This cause was this day scheduled by consent as well as the complainant as the defendants Keziah Hodges and Polly Hodges in their proper persons and the other defendants who are infants by Robert Reins their guardian appointed by the Court to defend them in this suit and thereupon by consent of all the parites came on to be heard on the bill of the complainant and the answer of the defendants now filed. On consideration whereof and of the argument of counsel, it is decreed and ordered that Alexander Foreman, Joshua Smith and Daniel Savills or any two of them allot and set apart to the defendants Keziah one third of the two hundred and forty five and three quarters acres of land more or less and also one third of the following slaves by name Charles, Jonas, Hannah, Aley, Jack, Davy, Bolos, and George whereof her husband Solomon Hodges dec'd devised and possess in the bill mentioned as her dower therein and divided the residues of the said land and slaves in equal proportions between the complainant and the defendants Polly, Tamer, Lydia and Absolom Hodges and make report thereof to the Courts in order to a final decree.

The defendant being arrested and not appearing on the motion of the plt. by his attorney. It is considered by the Court that the plt. recover against the defendant twenty-six pounds nine shillings with interest thereon to be computed after the rate of five per centum per annum from the 26th day of Jan 1796 till payment and his costs by him about his suit in this behalf expended and the deft. in mercy etc.

This day came, as will the plts and the defts: Hall and wife by their counsel and the deft: Absalom by William Cherry who is by the Court appointed his guardian to defend him in this suit and thereupon the cause came on by consent to be heard, upon the bill and answers now filed, on consideration whereof it is decreed and ordered that John Pollick, Willis Wilkins, and John Hodges, gent. or any two of them sell the land and Negro slave in the bill mentioned to the highest bidder for ready money after giving fifteen days public notice of the time and place of such sale and after declaring the costs of suit and the expenses attending the sale divide the balance of the proceeds in the following manner one fourth to Matthew Manning in right of his wife, one fourth to Mary and Katy Hodges, one fourth to Willis Hall in right of his wife and the remaining fourth to Absalom Hodges and made report thereof to the Court in order to a final decree.
